Xiaomi Unveils Pilot Technology for autonomous driving

Xiaomi introduced a new fully internally developed autonomous driving solution called Pilot Technology. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun launched the first progress report for Xiaomi Pilot Technology for Autonomous Driving. The company has promised to invest 3.3 billion in the development of the first R&D phase of its autonomous driving technology.

“Xiaomi’s autonomous driving technology adopts a self-developed full-stack approach, and the project has progressed beyond expectations,” Jun said.

Lei Jun also released a live road test video of its autonomous driving technology during the unveiling. The test video demonstrated the technology’s safe and intelligent assisted driving approach in a range of scenarios, including U-turns, roundabouts and continuous downhill driving.

The company announced its entry into the smart electric vehicle segment in March 2021. In its first phase, Xiaomi Pilot Technology is working on building a fleet of 140 test vehicles. For the first stage R&D team, Xiaomi has hired more than 500 experts from around the world.

The project will be Xiaomi’s attempt to adopt a self-developed full-stack approach to autonomous driving technology, covering all key areas. With this, autonomous driving algorithms will be quickly iterated based on user needs.
