How to capture a portion of the screen on a Mac

If you want to capture a specific portion of your screen, just press the three keys on your keyboard as mentioned below.

Step 1: Press and hold these three keys at the same time i.e. “Shift, Command, and 4“.

Step 2: Drag the crosshair to select the area of the screen to capture. To move the selection, press and hold the space bar while dragging. You can cancel taking a screenshot by pressing the Esc (Escape) key.

Step 3: To take the screenshot, release your mouse or trackpad button.

Step 4: By clicking on the thumbnail in the corner of your screen, you can edit the screenshot. Otherwise, it will automatically save.

Where to find screenshots

Screenshots are saved to your desktop under the name “Screen Shot [Date] [Time].png“. You can also view them in your image gallery. Once you’ve got a screenshot, you can rename it, you can even move it from one folder to another.
